Quick answer

How much is fidya for one fast? In the Hanafi madhab the fidya for one missed fast is the same as one fitrana: half a sa’ of wheat (about 1.75 to 2 kg) or its value, given to a poor person. Kaffara for a fast broken on purpose is fasting 60 days in a row, or, for someone who cannot, feeding 60 poor people, which is 60 times that amount.

Use it as a fidya calculator for missed fasts or as a kaffara (kaffarah) calculator for a fast broken on purpose: enter the number of fasts and the daily amount.

Official figure: Fitrana (sadaqat al-fitr) per person, Council of Islamic Ideology

In the Hanafi madhab, fidya for one fast equals one fitrana. Latest announced, for Ramadan 1447 (2026): Rs 300 (wheat), Rs 1,100 (barley), Rs 1,600 (dates), Rs 3,800 (raisins) (Council of Islamic Ideology, 9 Feb 2026; Rs 200 for subsidised flour).

Next: Ramadan 1448 (February 2027): not announced yet. The Council usually announces it shortly before or early in Ramadan. We update this box on the day it is announced.

Fidya: who pays it

Fidya is for a person who cannot fast and has no hope of fasting later (Surah al-Baqarah 2:184), such as someone very old or with a long-term illness. They pay one fidya for each fast. Someone who missed fasts because of travel, a short illness, pregnancy or breastfeeding makes the fasts up later (qada) and does not pay fidya instead. If a person who could have made up their fasts dies without doing so, and left a will (wasiyyat), the fidya is paid from up to one third of what they left.

Kaffara: when it is due

In Hanafi fiqh kaffara is due when an adult deliberately breaks a Ramadan fast by eating, drinking or marital relations without a valid excuse. The kaffara is to fast 60 days in a row. Only a person who truly cannot do that may feed 60 poor people (Bukhari 1936, Muslim 1111) (two meals each) or give each of them the amount of one fitrana. Several fasts broken in the same Ramadan need one kaffara in the Hanafi view, as long as the first kaffara has not been paid yet. Each broken fast is also made up with one qada fast.

Other schools

In the Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools the fidya and each kaffara meal are one mudd of the local staple food (about 0.6 kg), which is less than the Hanafi half sa’. The Shafi’i and Hanbali schools require kaffara only for breaking the fast with marital relations; eating or drinking deliberately needs qada and repentance. Use the amount your own scholars announce.

How much in rupees?

Each Ramadan, the Council of Islamic Ideology and major madrasas announce fitrana and fidya amounts for wheat, barley, dates and raisins. Enter that amount above, or the price of about 2 kg of flour where you live. Pay by the more expensive items if you can afford it.

Fidya for 30 fasts

At the 2026 amounts of the Council of Islamic Ideology, fidya for a whole month of 30 fasts is 30 × Rs 300 = Rs 9,000 by wheat, or 30 × Rs 1,600 = Rs 48,000 by dates. In 2025 the same month was Rs 6,600 by wheat. A kaffara by feeding 60 people at Rs 300 is Rs 18,000. The fidya for 2027 follows the fitrana amount announced next Ramadan; past years are listed on the fitrana calculator.
