How much is fitrana? Fitrana is paid for every member of the family before the Eid prayer. In Hanafi fiqh it is half a sa’ of wheat (about 1.75 to 2 kg) or one sa’ of barley, dates or raisins (about 4 kg), or their value. Scholars announce the amount in money each Ramadan.
This fitrana calculator, which also works as a zakat al fitr calculator or fitr calculator for sadaqat al-fitr (sadqa-e-fitr in Urdu), multiplies the number of people in your house by the amount for the item you choose.
Official figure: Fitrana (sadaqat al-fitr) per person, Council of Islamic Ideology
Latest announced, for Ramadan 1447 (2026): Rs 300 (wheat), Rs 1,100 (barley), Rs 1,600 (dates), Rs 3,800 (raisins) (Council of Islamic Ideology, 9 Feb 2026; Rs 200 for subsidised flour).
Next: Ramadan 1448 (February 2027): not announced yet. The Council usually announces it shortly before or early in Ramadan. We update this box on the day it is announced.
Who must pay fitrana?
In Hanafi fiqh, which the amounts above follow, fitrana is wajib on every Muslim (Bukhari 1503) who at dawn on Eid day owns wealth equal to the nisab over and above basic needs and debts. This wealth does not need to have been held for a year or be zakatable wealth (al-Hidayah, Sadaqat al-Fitr). The person pays for himself and his young children; many also pay for their wife and other dependants. The Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools set a lower bar: anyone who has more than the food the family needs for the day and night of Eid pays. The same Hanafi test, wealth beyond needs equal to the nisab, also decides whether qurbani is wajib on you: the qurbani calculator checks it at today’s rate.
When to pay
Before the Eid prayer, so that the poor can celebrate Eid; the Prophet ﷺ called it a purification for the fasting person and food for the poor, accepted as fitrana when paid before the prayer (Abu Dawud 1609). Paying it during Ramadan is allowed and makes it easier to reach people in need.
Which item to choose
You may pay the value of any of the four items. Those who can afford it are encouraged to pay by the more expensive items (dates or raisins), as this gives more to the poor.
Worked example: a family of five
For Ramadan 1447 (February 2026) the Council of Islamic Ideology, Pakistan, gave minimum amounts per person of Rs 300 by wheat and Rs 1,600 by dates. A father paying for himself, his wife and three children pays:
- By wheat: 5 × Rs 300 = Rs 1,500.
- By dates: 5 × Rs 1,600 = Rs 8,000.
A baby born before dawn on Eid day is counted; a baby born after dawn is not. The amounts for Ramadan 2027 will be added to the calculator when they are announced; until then, enter the price where you live.
For whom you pay
- Yourself and your young children: the head of the house pays for them. If a child has wealth of their own, it can be paid from that.
- Wife and adult children: in the Hanafi view each pays for themselves, but it is valid and common for the husband or father to pay for them with their permission. The other schools make the husband responsible for his wife.
- Others: you may pay for anyone else, such as a parent, with their permission.
Who receives fitrana
Fitrana goes to the same people as zakat, mainly the poor and the needy. It cannot be given to your own parents, grandparents, children or grandchildren, and a husband and wife cannot give it to each other. Giving it to poor relatives such as brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts is allowed and rewarded twice. Several people’s fitrana may go to one family. See who can receive zakat.
Fitrana in the UK, USA, Canada and the Gulf
The amounts above are Pakistani rupees. Outside Pakistan, pick your currency in the calculator and it starts from the figure the body most local Muslims follow gave for Ramadan 1447 (March 2026). These are one cash value per person, usually based on a sa’ of the local staple (rice in the Gulf), not separate wheat and dates figures:
| Country | Fitrana per person | Fidya per day | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | GBP 5 | GBP 5 | UK charities such as Al Mustafa Welfare Trust (there is no single national body) |
| United States | USD 10 | USD 15 | Fiqh Council of North America |
| Canada | CAD 10 | Not set; one fitrana per day (Hanafi) | ICNA Relief Canada and the Muslim Association of Canada |
| United Arab Emirates | AED 25 | AED 20 | UAE Council for Fatwa (or 2.5 kg of rice) |
| Qatar | QAR 15 | Not set; one fitrana per day (Hanafi) | Qatar Ministry of Awqaf, Zakat Fund (2.5 kg of rice) |
Saudi Arabia is not listed: its senior scholars (the Hanbali position) require fitrana to be given as food, about 3 kg of rice or another staple per person, not as money. The Shafi’i and Maliki schools also prefer food; the Hanafi madhab allows its value in money. In India, follow the amount your local dar al-ifta announces. In every country, check this year’s amount with your mosque before Eid.

Fitrana and zakat are different
Fitrana is a fixed amount per person, due once a year at Eid, on wealth that does not need a year to pass. Zakat is 2.5% of your zakatable wealth, due on your own zakat date. Paying one does not replace the other; for zakat use the zakat calculator.
